The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on August 5, 2026, has published the draft Jabalpur Cantonment Building Bye-Laws, 2026 under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006. The proposed Bye-Laws are intended to apply within the limits of Jabalpur Cantonment and seek to supersede the notification dated August 15, 1931, subject to savings for actions already undertaken.
The draft provides for regulations concerning construction and building-related activities within the Cantonment, including definitions of access, accessory buildings, additions and alterations, amenity space, apartments, applicants, architects, architectural projections, basements, balconies and other building-related concepts. An applicant is required to have legally valid occupancy rights over leased, old grant or private land for undertaking construction, reconstruction, addition or alteration.
The Bye-Laws are draft provisions and are not yet operative. Interested persons may submit objections or suggestions to the Cantonment Board, Jabalpur within 30 days from the date the Gazette copy is made available to the public. The final Bye-Laws will come into force only upon their final publication in the Official Gazette by the Central Government.
